Meter Repair Technician
Pay Range has a minimum Annual Salary of $26,676 with midpoint of $38,805. Starting Pay Rate will be commensurate with experience. Position available in Public Works/Planning and Research/Meter Services to perform responsible skilled work activating, maintaining and /or repairing domestic and commercial water meters. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: General knowledge of the principles and techniques of water meter installation, repair, testing, and maintenance as described in AWWA Manual M6; Ability to perform basic math skills such as calculating percentages; Ability to field test and/or bench test water meters and calculate the results; Thorough knowledge of the hazards, which may be encountered and proper safety procedures; Ability to read and follow written instructions; Ability to keep written records and meter card files; Experience with personal computer; Proficiency in Word and Excel computer programs; Ability to learn Hansen and Cayenta Utility Manager computer programs for work orders; Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public; Thorough knowledge of the geography and street locations of the City; Ability to work under adverse weather conditions; Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and climb in and out of water meter vaults. Ability to use various hand tools, including wrenches, cutting tools and testing equipment. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable training and experience in water meter/utility installation, repair and maintenance. Must possess a valid driver's license with acceptable driving history. Certification as a Water Meter Technician by the NCAWWA/WEA Voluntary Certification Board is preferred.
