The City of Gastonia is one of more than 50 Public Power systems in North Carolina. The City of Gastonia operates its own electric distribution system through 11 substations and over 450 miles of distribution and transmission lines, serving over 26,000 customers in and around Gastonia.

ElectriCities of North Carolina
Gastonia is a member of ElectriCities of North Carolina. ElectriCities is a non-profit government service organization representing cities, towns and universities that own electric distribution systems. Today, ElectriCities represents 98 members in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. This association helps Gastonia to provide large utility company service while its customers enjoy the local, personal service of a municipal utility. ElectriCities provides customer service and safety training, emergency and technical assistance, communications, government affairs and legal services. Through consolidation of these services, Gastonia saves their customers the expense of administering these functions locally. www.electricities.com
North Carolina Municipal Power Agency #1
The City of Gastonia is also a member of North Carolina Municipal Power Agency #1, which provides power from the Catawba Nuclear Facility. This association provides Gastonia with an abundance of base load generation.

As a public power provider, Gastonia is one of more than 2,000 publicly-owned utilities, that serve over 18 million customers in the United States including Los Angeles, San Antonio, and Sacramento.
