Education
Keep Gastonia Beautiful's educational objectives are met through programs and projects that address recycling, litter abatement, beautification, preservation of the earth, and natural resource conservation.
Upcoming Events
- School Beautification and Environmental Education Booklet - Distributed to teachers county-wide. These booklets contain every program and project available for all schools during each school year.
- Earth Bracelets - Our organization furnishes all the supplies necessary for each student to make a bracelet and a speaker to address your class on the importance of preserving the earth.
- Twiggy the Talking Tree - Twiggy is our tree mascot. This program is for second grade students only. Twiggy educates the students on the importance and the value of trees in our community and environment and how trees are home to many animals.
- Louie the Litterbug - Louie visits third and fourth grade classrooms in Gaston County and educates students about the problems that litter can cause. Keep your eye out for Louie - you can find him at community events, parades, and even on the side of the city sanitation trucks.
- I Love a Tree Kits - These kits are furnished to each school yearly. This year students are learning about their ecological address.
- Commissioner's School - This program is hosted by our organization during the summer to expose these students to volunteer organizations and encourage volunteerism.
- “I Love a Clean School” – This competition encourages students to show their love for their school through neatness, cleanliness, and overall care. The Clean School Award this year is a flag that your school can fly or display on campus, designating your school as a Clean School winner.
